Croatian Operational Research Society established the following prizes and awards:

  • CRORS Distinguished Service Award (CRORS DSA) – distributed at the the International Conference on Operational Research KOI or at the Annual Meeting of CRORS
  • CRORS Best Young Researcher Paper Award (CRORR BYRPA) – distributed at the the International Conference on Operational Research KOI

 


CRORS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD (CRORS DSA)

About the award

The CRORS Distinguished Service Award is for recognition of distinguished service to the Croatian Operational Research Society and to the profession of OR, for the benefit of science and society in general. The award will be officially delivered at the annual meeting of the CRORS or during the KOI conferences. It does not have to be assigned regularly, but in case there are nominationsand if the Awarrd Commission made ​​the choice.

The CRORRS DSA will be given to an individual who has served the CRORS, OR community, and OR profession effectively for many years at home and abroad. One CRORRS DSA award can be assigned every year, except in cases of two candidates of the same contribution. In that case, two awards can be assigned in one year.

The laureate will receive a diploma and will be invited to all future KOI conferences without payment of the registration fees.

 

The selection process

The candidate for CRORS Distinguished Service Award have to satisfy following conditions:

      1. that the candidate is a member of CRORS and has actively worked on benefit of the society at least for five years
      2. that the candidate has performed some of the functions in CRORS (President, Vice President, Chair of KOI Program Committee, Chair of KOI Organizing Committee, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Conference Proceedings or CRORR Journal,CRORS delegate in world scientific organizations), or performed other activities to significantly contribute the promotion anddevelopment of CRORS 
      3. that the candidate made a significant contribution to prosperity of CRORS comparing to the situation in CRORS before his service (the prosperity can be scientific, organizational or applicative aspects of development of operational research)

 

The nominations of candidates for this award can be made by members of CRORS, EURO, and IFORS. The nominations should contain a CV or an equivalent document of the candidate. Nominations must be made in confidence (i.e. the nominee should not be informed), and sent to hdoi@hdoi.hr or CRORS postal address until September 10 of the current year (and can be extended to September 15, 2016).

The jury for this reward is consisted of 3 selected members of the CRORS Executive Committee. Members are Zdravka Aljinović, Marija Marinović and Luka Neralić. The mandate of this jury is to the next CRORS constituent meeting and can be repeated twice, after which the newly committee will be established. Members of the committee as part of its mandate cannot be nominated for this award.

The Award Committee will consider the nominations, check if the candidates satisfy the above conditions and make a decision by the majority of the Committee members. The jury is obliged to write a report about their decision and submit it to the CRORS Executive Committee before the next annual meeting of the society after the nomination.

 

Award winners

2013 – prof.dr.sc. Luka Neralić – initiator, founder, and first CRORS president, for his long-term enthusiastic efforts in promoting the area of operations research at home and abroad, and for his ongoing commitment and contribution to the reputation of the CRORS in international professional organizations EURO, IFORS and INFORMS.

 


CRORS BEST YOUNG RESEARCHER PAPER AWARD (CRORS BYRPA)

About the award

The CRORS Best Young Researcher Paper Award (CRORR BYRPA) is for recognition of young researchers who made a valuable contribution to the OR research through their paper presented at the KOI conference or published in CRORR Journal. Its purpose is to encourage young researchers in their effort to investigate OR methodology in depth.

The CRORS BYRPA award will be given to an individual or a group of young researchers (if a group of young researchers are coauthors of the paper) whose paper presented at the KOI conference showed a distinguished contribution to the OR research. The award may be awarded in the KOI conference year during the closing ceremony and will be assigned for a single paper, except incases of two similar high-quality papers. In that case, two awards can be assigned in one year.

The laureate will receive a diploma and the participation for the next KOI conference without payment of registration fee.

 

The selection process

1. At the ennual meeting, the Executive Committee will be authorized to choose the selection jury consisted of 3 members.

2. The candidates have to satisfy the following conditions:

      • A paper authored by one or more young researchers or students can be nominated. If authors are not students they have to be no older than 35 years. Each author have to satisfy this condition.
      • Only the papers whose topic is in the scope of the KOI conference can be nominated.
      • Only the papers that will be submitted for and presented at the following KOI conference can be nominated.
      • Only the papers that were not published or submitted for publishing in other conferences and journals can be nominated.
      • The paper must have characteristics of high-quality scientific work.

 

3. The applications for this award should be made by the young researchers who are the authors of the paper. The candidate’s full paper, CV, and the explanation of the scientific contribution of the paper in the area of OR should be sent to hdoi@hdoi.hr or to CRORS postal address no later than September 15 of the current year, entitled with “CRORR BYRP application”.

The jury for this reward is consisted of 3 selected members of the CRORS Executive Committee. Members elected in 2013 are Zrinka Lukač, Snježana Pivac and Josip Arnerić. The mandate of this jury is to the next CRORS constituent meeting and can be repeated twice, after which the newly committee will be established. Members of the committee as part of its mandate cannot be nominated for this award.

4. The jury will consider the nominations, check if candidates satisfy the above conditions and make a decision by committee majority vote. The jury is obliged to write a report no later than the present conference ended and submit it to the CRORS Executive Committee. If it is necessary the jury can also consult two independent reviewers related to the topic of the paper.

5. The CRORS BYRPA award may be awarded in the KOI conference year and will be assigned for a single paper, for each coauthor, except in cases of two similar high-quality papers. In that case, two awards can be assigned in one year.

If the jury made a decision about this award, it will be given during the closing ceremony of the KOI conference.

6.  The CRORS BYRPA award is a diploma and the participation for the next KOI conference without payment of registration fee.
