History of CRORS

Organization of the 1st OR Conference KOI ’91 in December 1991 was important in establishing the Croatian Operational Research Society (CRORS). Two groups of OR people, one from Zagreb and the other from Split were active in organizing the Conference and establishing the CRORS, together with colleagues from Varaždin, Rijeka, Ljubljana and Maribor. Colleagues from Slovenia gave us the support in establishing the CRORS. After three months, in March 1992, The Founding meeting of CRORS was held at the Faculty of economics in Zagreb. The Statute of CRORS was acquired at that meeting, and the Board of directors with Supervisory board was elected. The first president was prof. Luka Neralić from University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics Zagreb.
In the early years one of the activities was organizing lectures on the theoretical and applied OR topics for members of CRORS and members of the Seminary for Mathematical Programming and Game Theory at the Department of Mathematics, University of Zagreb.
The other major acitivity was organizing the national OR Conferences, including attendants from abroad every year. In 1994 CRORS became the 43rd member of the International Federation of Operational Research (IFORS) and also a member of the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO). This recognition has significantly contributed to OR development in Croatia. In 1996 the 6th International OR Conference was organized. At that Conference we agreed with the Slovenian OR group, which was also the organizer of OR Symposiums, to collaborate closely in organizing our international meetings such that each society organizes the conference every two years.
Since 1992 to 2008, the papers from each conference were blindly reviewed and accepted papers were published in the conference Book of abstracts, and in the Conference Proceedings titled “Proceedings of the International Conference on Operational Research (KOI)”. The proceedings is indexed in the following databases: Current Mathematical Publications, Mathematical Reviews and MathSciNet, Zentralblatt fuer Mathematik/Mathematics Abstracts, MATH on STN International and CompactMath, Current Index to Statistics, ProQuest, Inspec, EconLit and Scopus.
In 2008, the proceedings evolved into a journal titled “Croatian Operational Research Review” (CRORR) in which selected and blindly-reviewed papers from the conference are being published. CRORR journal is indexed cover-to-cover in the following databases: Current Index to Statistics, ProQuest, Inspec, EconLit and Hrcak, while selected papers are indexed in the databases: Current Mathematical Publications, Mathematical Reviews and MathSciNet, Zentralblatt fuer Mathematik/Mathematics Abstracts, MATH on STN International and CompactMath.
We are glad to have a number of invited lecturers from the world’s top universities who do not hesitate to transfer their knowledge at our KOI conferences.  We will try to continue improving the quality of our research and collaboration in the future.
In occassion of 20th anniversary of CRORS foundation, IFOR Newsletter of March 2012 published an article dedicated to Croatian Operational Research Society, written by Luka Neralic and Valter Boljuncic. The newsletter is published online at: http://ifors.org/web/march-2012-newsletter/
